At Mid Missouri Dive Center, our passion for the underwater world is led by Owner and Head Instructor Greg Thurmon, whose dedication to scuba education spans more than 50 years. Greg has personally taught thousands of divers—from first-timers to seasoned explorers—and has organized dive trips on every continent, sharing his expertise and infectious enthusiasm with each new generation of adventurers.

Beyond the dive shop, Greg serves as a Marine Biology Professor at Central Methodist University, where his research and outreach inspire hundreds of students each year. Under his guidance, university teams travel the globe conducting vital ocean studies and conservation projects—restoring coral reefs in the Pacific, documenting marine life in the Caribbean, and supporting coastal clean-ups in Honduras. Greg’s blend of academic rigor, field experience, and genuine love for the sea ensures that every diver who trains with him learns not only how to explore beneath the waves, but also how to protect and preserve our oceans for years to come.
